In the darkest pit of my life,
There was no light to find my way.
Debilitated beyond hope,
No gain did the new day convey.
The turmoil of one’s mind enslaved
To thoughts which fear alone can spawn,
And scarcity of breath in lungs,
The ease of inhalation gone.
Drawn out too far beyond the tide
For anyone to come and aid,
My futile strokes impossible
Against the turbulent crusade.
Sinking to the end of myself,
“Jesus!” I called in desperate plea.
Amazed, I felt a hand in mine,
Drawing me from the raging sea.
It was myself He saved me from
When I could not find strength to fight.
Each time I call upon His name,
My inner darkness turns to light!
